Every Monday Matters - Show Your Smile

What is the Every Monday Matters program?

Monday used to be the least favorite day of the week, but that is changing. EMM is based on the idea that every Monday people can make a difference in their life and the lives of those around them. No matter how big or small the actions, they matter. And not only do people have the power to make change, they have a social responsibility to do so. Not out of guilt, but out of an appreciation for every living thing in the world. Together, each person can make a difference in the world and raise the collective consciousness, thereby creating a legacy worth participating in…one Monday at a time.

Here is an easy one to get you started:

- A smile is a universal expression of happiness and recognized as such by all cultures.

- A smiling person is judged to be more pleasant, attractive, sincere, sociable, and competent. Smiling is contagious.

- Happy people generally don’t get sick as often as people who are unhappy.

- Smiling or even seeing somebody smile releases endorphins that work in the brain to give an overall feeling of well-being.

- People are born with the ability to smile.

- Adults laugh approximately 15 times per day, while children laugh about 400 times a day.

- It takes only 17 muscles to smile, compared to 43 muscles to frown.

- Women smile more than men.

+ Smile at EVERYONE you see today.

+ Keep track of how many times you smile and laugh today.

If you are having trouble smiling, here are a few suggestions to help:

- Make faces at yourself in the mirror.

- Hug someone you care about.

- Visit a pet store.

+ At the end of your day of smiling, notice how you feel and whether people acted differently around you.

Happiness leads to smiling, and smiling leads to happiness. Happiness is your natural immunity, having a profound, positive effect on your health and well-being. If you are happy, smile. If you aren’t happy, smile anyway. It will help you get there.

  1. If you could see me now, you'd see that I'm smiling at you! You are so right on the mark with all this. You know that if you tell yourself something enough, you can come to believe it. It can actually change your brain chemistry. I've read a book on this and it's fascinating. It may be Monday, but it's also one seventh of our whole week. Time is too precious to have a whole day set aside for dreading and being grumpy,(SMILE)!!

  2. I try to remember to smile, as it doesn't come natural for most men!

  3. I read most of all this years ago whilst going through 2 berevements and the grieving process was taking it's toil. All that you wrote WORKS within weeks of reading and listening to cds at night I was a different person. I still get days when things go haywire but my self confidence have returned, I am positive and I am Happy,
Anyone who reads this blog read it time and time again because as I say it;s true and it WORKS.
Thanks for writing this more people should be aware of a few simple actions.

  4. Smile is the best medicine I always hear. this is such a wonderful post Coreen. I'll try to do it not only on Monday but everyday and will try to make it contagious. Hahahaha! Thanks for the facts and trivia.

  5. Mondays are special because even though my day has been bad, coming here makes a difference xx
