Weekly Motivation - Stretch your Comfort Zone

This a weekly motivation is borrowed from a friend.  Thanks Mark!

Eleanor Roosevelt said,
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
How do you handle fear? How do you handle fear of change? Do you embrace it? Are experiences that stretch you out of your comfort zone a regular part of your daily life? Or have you retreated so far into your comfort zone that you don't ever even feel fear? How must you change to develop a spirit of courage in your life?

This week...go out and do something "stretching" simply for the sake of growing your courage. It will even make you feel more "alive".

Go For It!  Have a GREAT week!

I was the shy girl in school who couldn't give a speech without shaking with fear and ending in tears if someone laughed. I have decided to learn to 'present' in order to come out of my shell once and for all. I've registered for 2 different presentation certification workshops this summer. Taking vacation from my day job and using my own money to do this for ME. This is just one of the steps I am taking to follow my dreams; like I have allowed my sons to follow theirs. Wish me luck! :-) ~ Coreen

  1. and how very right she is ..great post xx

  2. so needed to hear this today! :)

  3. I don't do public speaking well either. In fact, I wrote a speach and am having someone else present it for me at the ceremony because of it!

Good for you for having the courage to face your fears! I'm proud of you and wish you well.

  4. Coreen this post is so ironic for today.....fear...I have lots. Never did as a younger person, however the older I get the more fears I accumulate. Friends are always shocked to hear of some of my fears....long car rides for one, I will not drive on the highway 90 percent of the time....flying, I can go on and on. I am gearing up for something very exciting soon, I need to take a video and submit is for a talk show, not a full time one, just part time, and if I get it, I would have to be away from my family for 6 that is fear....I can't imagine....but my family is telling me to cross that bridge if I get to it....I want to try it, you only live once, and I think I could do it! Thanks Coreen this post was meant for me today:)

  5. Very sound advice,I do have a fear but it is medical and have to face up to it every day
    Thanks for sharing your views,

  6. Great advice!
    Blessings and prayers,

  7. so cool that you took and are taking those steps...i dunno what i am afraid of honestly...but i will throw mysef over that wall when i come to it...

  8. Good for you Coreen!! I stretched my boundaries as well. I sent my portfolio to a firm that is re-decorating their offices. I introduced myself and sent them my work. How cool is that? I am feeling pretty proud of myself right now.
    Proud of you too

  9. I could use that and needed that stretch

  10. What a great mom you are! And thanks for taking us along your journey as you follow your dreams, looking forward to watching you step out! Love you whole attitude of wanting to keep it real! Thanks for stopping by my blog and being an encouragement to me!

  11. I'm not very good at embracing change! And yet it is self-destructive not to, as things change whether we embrace the concept or not.

You've inspired me to stop listening to the voices that tell me nobody will ever publish my poetry, and just keep sending it out there. Rejection is only scary if you allow it to be.

  12. It is not easy for me but I have made it through the storm in the past and I loved the growth I made, I had to, had no choice. Then two years ago I had to work on a family trust after my aunt & uncle died. It was scary as hell but I did it and I have pride in that.
It always seems to come down to when push comes to shove!

  13. Such a great reminder to get out of our comfort zone! Thanks !

  19. Hi Coreen,
I love change and always look forward to it. Along with change comes new ideas, a fresh way to look at things and maybe will even show you a whole different direction to go that you hadn't noticed before. I mostly enjoy the learning process that comes with change. Along with change comes fear, but fear is good when channeled correctly. You can use fear to your advantage by asking yourself key questions about where you're headed.

By the way, I love your blog, I feel inspired and motivated after reading a few posts. Thanks for visiting me, I'm following you back.

  20. Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day. This post is amazing. Fear is something I have struggled with for a very long time, but I think I am finally getting the upper hand. I was at one school for 20 years, and decided to request a change. I was scared to death, but knew in my heart I needed a change, I was too comfortable. It was the best move I ever made. I felt refreshed, like a new person, with a new career. I've learned this from personal issues too, putting that toe over that comfort zone, can make things so much better. It also brings a feeling of empowerment that helps you face more fears. By the way, public speaking is still my biggest fear, but I've been taking baby steps. You'll have to let me know how you made out.
LOVE THE QUOTE. She was an amazing woman. I use her quotes to my girls all the time.
    Glad we "met."

  26. Great post. I am terribly shy in real life. My mother is one of the outgoing people that never meets a stranger- completely opposite-lol. Thank you for the motivation. I am trying to be more outgoing and will make an extra effort this week:)

  27. Something I definitely needed to read today! That's awesome that you stretched outside of your comfort zone! Good luck with everything! :)

  28. Woohoo!!! You go girl! I have this thing about if ya don't stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone...ya stop growing and die. Oops, my age is probably showin'! Dream on sister!

God bless and you have yourself the best day!!!

  29. That why I started working with the Sedona Method so I could live in courageousness on a daily basis. Prior to learning this technique my emotions control every move I made so fear, anxiety, wanting control, wanting approval etc. had me by the throat - now I'm living in a whole new world fearlessly. Great blog!

  30. LUCK!!! (Though I doubt you'll not need much of it.)

Thank you for stopping by! I would LOVE your comments!
