Half Full Friday & Aloha Friday weekly question

"One is happy as a result of one's own efforts-once one knows the necessary ingredients of happiness-simple tastes, a certain degree of courage, self-denial to a point, love of work, and, above all, a clear conscience." ~ George Sand
Half Full Friday is a series of weekly posts that Eye Girl originally started in June 2009.  Now the it is hosted by Sprinkles at Wyldechylde.  We believe that a lot of our happiness is determined by our attitude about the things that happen to us. So by participating, we are deciding to see the glass as half full, instead of half empty. We are choosing to concentrate on the positives, instead of dwelling on the negatives. Our Half Full Friday posts are a way to do just that. They are a list of the things in our life that have brought us happiness over the past week. We are determined to find the something good in every day. Are you?
"Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want." ~ Margaret Young
For the next week, we challenge you to keep a list of at least one thing that brought you happiness each day.
"Where your pleasure is, there is your treasure: where your treasure, there your heart; where your heart, there your happiness." ~ Saint Augustine

“The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.” ~ Tom Bodett quotes
My question: What is your biggest Life Lesson?

My answer: Taking responsibility for 'allowing' people to treat me badly in the past.  Along with having the strength, wisdom and 'life skills' to not let myself stay in those situations again.  :-)
"You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself." ~ Jim Rohn
Have a wonderful weekend, Everyone!

  1. Such great thoughts for a Friday! Hope that your weekend is a good one,

  2. Wonderful post Coreen!! My biggest life lesson is about the same as yours. And my life is what I make of it...not anyone else. I chose...!!

  3. I am happy I succeeded at NaNo. Not just because I won, but because I proved to myself I could write another book.
And life lesson? In order to love God, we must love His people.

  4. I am happy you learned that life lesson. You know some never do Coreen! Enjoy the weekend. Debbie

  5. nice life lesson...mine would be around noticing the now and not getting so caught up on the future or where you are going...

  6. Good thoughts for Friday Corren, enjoyed the post,

  7. I'm happy for this awesome cup of coffee as I wake up and tour around Blogdom a bit. Have a great day!

  8. Appreciate your parents while they are still around.

    Have a great Friday!

  9. nice post! the whole concept of the glass half full is how I choose to live each and every day. LOVED reading your list today...

  10. I kept looking a bigger and better to be happy. Now I have went in the reverse and it is less stressful. How is one to know without trying the other out?

  11. Love this post! I kept nodding my head-especially about taking responsibility for the past. Yep! Yep! I am grateful for my health and being needed as well!

  12. I'm still working on your life lesson. Some things in the past we must just come to terms with and move on.

What am I thankful for? Right now it is heat and a family repair man :D

  13. maybe not the biggest Life Lesson for me - but what comes to mind right now is 'self acceptance'. While I was feeling insecure and deficient I was getting less than what I deserve in life, but then, on my 25th birthday and feeling that quarter-life crisis, I started telling myself that I have everything I need to be happy and to have everything I want in life. I became more open and things started to be better since then.

  14. Great quotations! Lots of inspiration here:)

I'm happy it's Friday. Have a great weekend!

  15. Lovely post.

I learn that when I'm angry, nothing will be accomplished. I must not speak or do, but wait until I'm calm again. Even if it should take months or weeks as in with relationships.Daily it might be just for the next hr etc.

  16. I love the Bodett quote!! My biggest life lesson, well, I don't know, there have bben many at my age. One is not to respond to anger, but always be softspoken.

  17. Im in my 20's but so far I think my life lesson as been, don't take people or time for granted. I have lost so many people in my life so suddenly that I have learned to treasure every moment

  18. I am happier when I read your happy posts. The gratitude makes me happy. Happy Birthdays coming up!!!! :D :D :D Yay! I want cake! (I am the greedy self-inviting guest!! heehahahaha!!)

  19. Hi Coreen, I'm happy to come to your blog everyday... Thanks!!!!

Life lessons, huh??? WOW--so many!!!! One which I still continue to work on is to accept people as they are --and not try to change them. That's hard ---but I've grown in this area, and will continue to work at it...

  20. I am happy for you!! all the points that you mentioned making you feel happy made me happy!!! brightening post!

  21. Happy Friday to you (on a Saturday;))
Love the wireless internet and laptop too.;)
My biggest Life lesson is to ALWAYS trust my gut instinct. It has never let me down yet; I only let myself down way too often, when I dismissed trusting in it.;))
    Have a great weekend,

  22. As difficult as it was to go through that, I'm so glad you learned that particular lesson. So many people never do and allow themselves to get right back in those same situations over and over again.

I'd like to think I learned that same lesson.

  23. I'm sure that I still am learning my biggest life's lesson.

    But some lessons:

Self-confidence is self-fulfilling. If you are confident in yourself, other people will be too.

Getting to bed earlier DOES make it easier to get up earlier without being tired during the day. Getting up earlier does enable you to be more productive.

Setting boundaries in relationships is healthy, desireable, and you are more likely to have happiness if you do so. Giving the other person everything they want in hopes that they will reciprocate is NOT the way to have a happy relationship.

Changing my attitude about my challenges is the best way to change my challenges.

    Time flies.

Thank you for stopping by! I would LOVE your comments!
