Be Yourself

“You can gain more friends by being yourself than you can by putting up a front. You can gain more friends by building people up than you can by tearing them down. And you can gain more friends by taking a few minutes from each day to do something kind for someone, whether it be a friend or a complete stranger. What a difference one person can make!” -Sasha Azevedo

Be Yourself   by Ellen Bailey

Why would you want to be someone else
When you could be better by being yourself
Why pretend to be someone you are not
When you have something they haven't got

Cheating yourself of the life you have to live
Deprives others of that only which you can give
You have much more to offer by being just you
Than walking around in someone else's shoes

Trying to live the life of another is a mistake
It is a masquerade; nothing more than a fake
Be yourself and let your qualities show through
Others will love you more for being just you

Remember that God loves you just as you are
To Him you are already a bright shining star
Family and friends will love you more too
If you spent time practicing just being you

“Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else."~Judy Garland

  4. I love this post. So inspiring.

I saw your comment just now over at Jules and came over to meet you. I got very interested in following you when I saw that you write true stories. I just finished proofing the galleys of my memoir that's scheduled for April 25th release.

I love the typewriter logo. I wrote on one of these when I was a teenager. (I'm that old.) I also have a nine-year-old grandson who is mildly autistic; at first they diagnosed him with Asperger's. He is special.

I see your "aloha" thing. Did you live in Hawaii? I lived in Laie with my first husband and four children 1975-76.

I'm interested in reading your stories!

  9. Love the poem! God does give each of us something special that no one else has, we have our own special work to do here. If we wear a mask, then our friends are not really our friends, they are friends of who they hink we are.

  12. Hi Coreen , As I was reading through the poem I reflected on how we sometimes do not like ourselves because of our past mistakes and choices so we actually do become different people than who GOD has intended us to become ....We cannot even believe that GOD would or could forgive us for what we've done ....We don't forgive ourselves either so we meander around through life wishing and pretending and dreaming and hoping that we could have a better life or become a better person ....When we come to understand that GOD actually does forgive us and wipes our slate clean it's not an instant guarantee to paradise here on earth but it does allow us to become the person GOD has created us to be ....We also need to understand what GOD wants from us and so to know this HE gave us HIS WORD ....We aspire to have love ,joy , peace , patience , understanding ,kindness, faithfulness ,gentleness and self control and it is only through GOD that we can and will have these characteristics ....What a wonderful post this is today ....Your faithfulness and enthusiasm for your site always shines through when you post ....Enjoy your night .

The world is full of other people, so why try to be like them when you are unique?

  17. “Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.". I love this quote Coreen.

before it strikes to me why am I too different with other people. I have so many wishes yet I never appreciate who I am. But today that is not the case, I would like to love my self for who I am with the thought that God me the way I am today for a purpose and I will love for that purpose.
