Direction Essentials

"Singleness of purpose is one of the chief essentials for success in life, no matter what may be one's aim." ~John D. Rockefeller

As I work to find new direction in my life, I am reminded that real change is a result of hard work, focus and direction.  I can work hard and focus when I try, but knowing which direction to take is much tougher.

I have others who depend on me.  That, along with having no one to take care of me... but Me... causes  long and hard thoughts about the direction and the decisions I must make in each and every phase of my life.

Changes can be difficult for anyone at anytime.  However for me, they are usually for the best.  So I focus on that, believing that God has a better plan while giving me a new direction.

Today I've been thinking about the 'essentials' to life and the direction I want mine to go.  Essentials don't just include food and shelter.  For me they include being honest, trustworthy and following my personal values.

That can be difficult in some environments, especially in workplaces where money and personal benefits outweigh doing what is fair or right at times.

I would rather spend my life doing what I feel is right... even if I don't accomplish as much as some people or make nearly as much money.

Directions that bring me satisfaction, peace and happiness are 'essential' to my own life!  How about you?
Essentials
Roll up your sleeves, lad, and begin;
Disarm misfortune with a grin;
Let discontent not wag your chin-
Let gratitude.

Don't try to find things all askew;
Don't be afraid of what is new;
Nor banish as unsound, untrue,
A platitude.

If folks don't act as you would choose
Remember life is varied; use
Your common sense; don't get the blues;
Show latitude.

Sing though in quavering sharps and flats,
Love though the folk you love are cats,
Work though you're worn and weary-
that's the attitude.

Half Full Friday! June 11th, 2010

Half Full Friday is a series of weekly posts that Eye Girl originally started in June 2009.

We believe that a lot of our happiness is determined by our attitude about the things that happen to us. So by participating, we are deciding to see the glass as half full, instead of half empty. We are choosing to concentrate on the positives, instead of dwelling on the negatives. Our Half Full Friday posts are a way to do just that. They are a list of the things in our life that have brought us happiness over the past week.

"Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day." ~ Author Unknown

We are determined to find the something good in every day.  Are you?

For the next week, we challenge you to keep a list of at least one thing that brought you happiness each day. On Friday, write your own Half Full Friday post and return to Life As Eye See It to link your post and to see what other bloggers found happiness in during the past week.

Don't forget to grab a Half Full Friday Banner or Button for your blog post if you are going to join in:

Attitude and Conflict

We see conflict everywhere; on the news, in the work place, and unfortunately in our homes sometimes. We see people deal with conflict badly and admire people who handle conflict resolution in a calm rational manner.

Conflict is described as a disagreement through which the parties involved perceive a threat to their needs, interests or concerns.  So a conflict is really a personal perception of what is important to an individual.  A person's point of view based on their own interest, values or needs.  That explains why some conflicts are so passionate and even heated at times.

How we handle those times of conflict has a lot to do with our attitude.  If we really want to find a resolution.  If we really care about the situation or the people involved.  Or do we just want to fight because we are so unhappy and don't care about the consequences and the damage we cause.
"Whenever you're in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude."-William James
I totally agree with this quote. I personally spent way too many years with someone who wanted to fight and had to be right no matter what. I was the peace keeper who just wanted 'calm' in my home and life. I could go the rest of my life without ever fighting or arguing again. Probably won't happen, but I would like that.

Everyone will disagree, at least once in a while, but I see no need to fight.  I think right there is an attitude, an attitude of peace.  Of deciding not to fight, to communicate and agreeing to work things out. Anything can be discussed calmly with the right attitude.  If you truely care about the person you are having a conflict with, I think you should focus on that as much as possible.  Words can never be taken back, no matter how many times you say you're sorry.   I learned a long time ago that words can cut deeper than anything physical and I have experienced both.

So how do you deal with conflict?  Do you think the right attitude makes a difference to the outcome?
