Don't tell too much, too soon!

Many times over the past several years while dating, I have many times talked too much about my past dates and relationships, even to people I barely knew. I had convinced myself that I needed to be completely open and honest, with everyone, in order to find someone else that was honest. I realized later that too much information, too soon, is a Hugh mistake for many reasons.

For one, it scares the heck out of most men!  And two, the past is just that the past.  No one is perfect and we have all made mistakes.  What is going on in our lives right now, along with who we are at the present time, is what and should be all that matters.

Most of our past experiences happened for a reason.  In my case, it has made me the complete person I am today.  I now appreciate all that has happened and look for the lesson in each experience.  I could not have grown, learned or matured without those experiences.  I truly like the person I am today.

I also realize now that when the right person comes along for us, no amount of past or road blocks are going to keep you from them.  If two souls are meant to be together, they will be.  However, no matter how hard we try to rush things, it will happen in God's timing and not always in ours.  So be patient and believe that the right person, at the right time, will come into your life and they will!

  1. Well said Coreen....I think for the most part many of us have talked about past relationships....it necessarily is not a bad thing...hey we are not with those people anymore...and we all have a past. Too much too soon is probably not the best approach. Hope all is well...are you enjoying your summer....it is so hot here.

  4. Well written keeping a little bit back from your past adds an air of mystery about a person, As you so rightly say when the right one comes along who cares what has happened in your past, it's the future that counts.

  5. True words of wisdom. My motto is always "Learn from yesterday, live for today, dream for tomorrow." We should always work towards the future in every aspect of our lives but never forget who we are or what brought us where we are today.

  6. This is so true...!My hubby moved to my town just to go to college. Then he moved to an apartment near the church I went too. He attended the church and went to the Bible Study and that is where we met. That was 36 years ago!!! God moved him and planted him just where he needed to be for me!! So don't panic and trust the right one is one his way!!!

  7. We are all a sum of our experiences. It doesn't really matter what they were (except if it was some horrible crime)as long as we continue to grow and do not repeat the same mistakes. Let people know you for who you are today. The past is only important if they can't understand you, but then again, if they don't understand you why would you care to be with them? That's my profound reasonsing for the day and on only one cup of coffee too.

  8. It truly does happen when and where you least expect it; I waited 25 years for my soul mate! Just always be you and do not change for anyone.
And always look your best you never know where he may be!

  10. You're right. Men have little interest in the past, especially that of a potential partner's.

  11. Honestly, our past shouldn't matter as long as we've learned from it! It's been so long that any guy has shown any interest in me that I don't even bother looking anymore.

You left a message on my blog saying you don't have the energy to do night classes. You might actually qualify for a grant to go back to school and not have to work while you attend classes. I'm not sure if that'll be the case for me or not, I'm still waiting to hear back on my financial aid. If this going back to school is something you think you might be interested in, it would be worth it to look into!
