"You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of." ~ Jim Rohn
In '8 to Great', motivational speaker for positive change MK Mueller writes this to describe High-Way 3: Full Responsibility.
As we travel down the risk High-Way, obstacles and detours will inevitably appear. We can curse our “bad luck,” but not without being pulled off course. Full responsibility is the fundamental shift that allows us to take charge of our lives by owning that we were the ones who chose to go down the road of thoughts that didn’t feel good. Until we see that we’re in charge of our lives, we can feel trapped in a prison of resentment, bitterness, and confusion. When we acknowledge the power of our focus, we realize that we were never prisoners in the first place. ~ MK Mueller
Many times we focus too much on what other people have done to hurt us or how they have negatively effected our lives. Instead of accepting the circumstances and focusing on the positive, such as the lessons learned and appreciating the things that did go well, many times we start blaming and complaining. Both are a waist of our time and energy. Taking full responsibility can help you focus on the future, instead of the past.
We also need to take responsibility for the things we did or didn't do. I blamed someone for not being honest and keeping their word. However, I'm the one who trusted them and ultimately let them manipulate me. I saw the red flags, but I chose to ignore them. I needed to accept responsibility for that before I could move on and trust someone again."It is not only for what we do that we are held responsible, but also for what we do not do." ~ John Baptiste MoliƩre
Next time when you say it's all because of...., he should have...., she shouldn't have... stop and think about the roll your played in those situations. Did you not ask questions? Did you stand up for yourself? Did you listen to gossip and make poor decisions based on fear instead of knowledge? I think most of us have."Man must cease attributing his problems to his environment, and learn again to exercise his will - his personal responsibility." ~ Albert Einstein
"Whatever happens, take responsibility." ~ Anthony RobbinsWhen we take responsibility for the roads we went down. we can then re-focus our thoughts on the positives and lessons learned. You will be much happier if you do!

ReplyDeletepersonal responsibility...almost a misnomer in corporate culture...but important indeed...
ReplyDeleteSome great things that need to be said!!
ReplyDeleteVery good!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Coreen. We all do need to take ownership when it comes to our actions and the decisions we make. Too many times, when things don't go as expected, we play the BLAME game. It's always someone else's fault...
ReplyDeleteIt's not always easy, but I 'try' to see the best in things --and to keep a positive attitude. One of my favorite sayings is "Surround Yourself with Positive People"... It's all about ATTITUDE...

HA, I love that second cartoon! I used to have an old boss that I swear was like that.
ReplyDeletevery good post. we can use the past as the reason why we don't move in the current times. having to admit that we re also at fault in situations adds to all of this. Rose
ReplyDeleteThis is Gospel.
ReplyDeleteTake responsibility.
It is the answer to everything I can think of.
Thanks so much, Coreen!
Hope you're doing great!
Only the individual can be responsible for the road each of us takes, whether that road is the right or wrong we only have ourselves to
ReplyDeletewonder whether we did the right thing. We can't always be right so yes we do have to take ownership of our destiny.
Yvonne.
This is a really great post. It seems that we now live in a world where everyone is entitled to blame someone else.

ReplyDeleteTrying To Get Over The Rainbow
It's so true. Some of my greatest personal challenges in life have changed direction because I personally changed my attitude towards them and nothing else changed but that made all the difference in changing a situation for me.
ReplyDeleteyes I agree, very informative, and also we must take responsibility for our actions, very well said xx
