“The way to happiness: keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Fill your life with love. Scatter sunshine. Forget self, think of others. Do as you would be done by. Try this for a week and you will be surprised." - H. C. Mattern
“It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness." - Charles Spurgeon
For the next week, we challenge you to keep a list of at least one thing that brought you happiness each day.
I'm Happy and Thankful for many things every day... especially this week:
For getting settled and loving my new place!
For all the fun things we did last weekend and seeing old friends!
For getting some writing done this week. It's been a long time since I could really focus!!
"Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action." - Benjamin DisraeliIt's also "ALOHA FRIDAY" Everyone!! If you want to join in the fun? Post your own question on your blog and leave your link at the Aloha Friday post at An Island Life. Then you can visit the other participants if you wish...It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends or see what people are thinking about this week and join in a conversation or two if you like.
My question: I spent most of my life collecting 'things' and recently spent my days trying to get rid of the clutter and extra stuff. Why do we hang on to things we don't 'need', when someone else may appreciate and even need them more than us?"The essence of philosophy is that a man should so live that his happiness shall depend as little as possible on external things." - Epictetus
My answer: I think sometimes it's because we are 'afraid' that we will not have enough things someday. For me it came down to realizing that if I truly had 'faith' in my future, that I wouldn't be so afraid of giving things away and moving on to a simpler life. So I did and I feel Great!
Have a Beautiful weekend, everyone!!“Happiness does not depend on outward things, but on the way we see them." - Leo Tolstoy

Loved your post, you seem so happy and contented,
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week-end.
Yvonne.
Cleaning out the clutter is awesome! We usually give away stuff rather than sell it.
ReplyDeleteSelecting only your favorite things to live with is so freeing. I agree with your answer. We begin to allow the things to run our life, instead of living.
ReplyDeleteTime to write, settled it, dear one, you glass is overflowing!
I am so glad that you are all moved--and love it. That is so important. You have made a HUGE step in your life, haven't you?????? I'm proud of you.
ReplyDeleteEven though it seems I have alot of junk, I truly am not a collector.. Now that I'm older, I sorta wish I had have kept some of the things I inherited from my parents... When I was younger, I didn't care about them. Now I do... Oh Well...
Hugs,
Betsy
It's a whole lot of things why we do this.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's to cherish things because of the memories.
Sometimes its fear of not having enough. (like the manna in the bible story)
Or sometimes it's pure selfishness.
I try to get rid of stuff, but I have this tendency with children's clothes and shoes. I feel if I have another child, I might not be able to purchase clothes and such for them.....so I keep the used clothes of my children.
So it's in us but for many different reasons.
I"m so happy for you and your new home! Glad the deal turned out well.
aloha! :)
You do sound happy and content! Glad you are settling in and enjoying your new start! I've down-sized several times now, from huge houses, to a 3 bedroom condo, to now a 2 bedroom apartment. Don't miss a thing and know that my stuff has served someone else well - mostly our kids for the big stuff. It's fun going to each one's house and eat at 'my' kitchen table', sit at 'hubby's roll-top desk' or enjoy the dining room china cabinet and dining room table that used to grace our condo! Be blessed and have a great week-end!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to rid excess some for me.Sometimes I ask my kids if they want anything on my basement shelves. When I downsized I gave a family a bedroom and living room full of furniture to get them started in their first home.
ReplyDeleteWriting down good thoughts is fun to look back over when you aren't having a good day.

Where the pictures of the deer?! :) I have found that the minute I throw something away the very next day I need it. But I do need to pare down. :)
ReplyDeleteHave faith I will return to regular visits soon. :)
