Every Monday Matters - Have AMBER Alerts Sent to You

The AMBER Alert™ Program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies, and the wireless industry, to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases. The goal of an AMBER Alert is to instantly galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of the child.

FACTS

AMBER stands for “America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response” and was created as a legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then brutally murdered.

76% of abducted children who are murdered are dead within 3 hours of the abduction, 88.5% are dead within 24 hours, and 99% are dead within 7 days.

443 children have been reunited with their families because of AMBER Alerts.

Nearly 100% of cell phones are eligible to receive Wireless AMBER Alerts as text messages.

100% of computers can have the AMBER Alert ticker downloaded onto them.

AMBER Alerts are active in all 50 states.

TAKE ACTION TODAY

Pay attention to AMBER Alert signs on the freeway or on TV.

Sign-up to receive AMBER Alert text messaging on your cell phone.

Download the AMBER Alert Ticker onto your computer.

If you see or receive an AMBER Alert, don’t take it lightly. The perpetrator might be closer than you think.

YOU MATTER

Protecting children from abduction and locating those who have been abducted is the twofold purpose of AMBER Alerts. They increase the number of people who can help locate an abducted child or deter predators, and they have caused perpetrators to release the abducted child after hearing or seeing the AMBER Alert. Remember, those first three hours are everything to that child and his or her family. Your eyes and action could mean the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

What is the Every Monday Matters program?
Monday used to be the least favorite day of the week, but that is changing. EMM is based on the idea that every Monday people can make a difference in their life and the lives of those around them. No matter how big or small the actions, they matter. And not only do people have the power to make change, they have a social responsibility to do so. Not out of guilt, but out of an appreciation for every living thing in the world. Together, each person can make a difference in the world and raise the collective consciousness, thereby creating a legacy worth participating in…one Monday at a time.

  4. It is totally frightening how quickly a child can disappear! I definitely pay attention to AMBER alerts and begin praying right away. I so glad they have this program and I hope more people pay attention.

  6. I have heard about the AMBER Alert Text Messaging in one news broadcast. I think it's genius.

It is also an unfortunate fact that some of these abducted children are being subjected to sex trace trafficking.

  9. Hi Coreen,

You have done a great service informing everyone about the existence of Amber and how everyone can get involved to help the great cause.

    There are ruthless,heartless,mercyless,
depraved people in this world who would go to any extent to make money or gratify their evil desires and it doesn't matter even if they have to murder innocent and guileless children.

I congratulate you and greatly appreciate your initiative.

    Best wishes,
    Joseph

  10. The AMBER alerts are wonderful! In our city, the police have actually started calling every house with a pre-recorded meaasge. They call the land lines and give descriptions and all the info.

  11. Hi Coreen, Thanks for posting this important blog post... We all need to WATCH the children.. I saw a 48 Hour Mystery this past Sat. night --which told the story of 2 CA teens who disappeared.... Turned out that a sexual predator had been released (duh) --and killed both of them... Things like this happen all of the time... We ALL need to protect the CHILDREN....

    Great post.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  12. Ugh, blogger just ate my comment so now I have to start again.

I never knew you could have AMBER alerts emailed to you!

A few months ago, I was riding around in a car with my friend. A car passed us and a little kid in the back seat smiled and waved at us. According to my friend, this was code for, "Help, I've been kidnapped!" We followed the car around for awhile but eventually we lost the car.
