“You can gain more friends by being yourself than you can by putting up a front. You can gain more friends by building people up than you can by tearing them down. And you can gain more friends by taking a few minutes from each day to do something kind for someone, whether it be a friend or a complete stranger. What a difference one person can make!” -Sasha Azevedo

Be Yourself by Ellen Bailey
Why would you want to be someone else
When you could be better by being yourself
Why pretend to be someone you are not
When you have something they haven't got
Cheating yourself of the life you have to live
Deprives others of that only which you can give
You have much more to offer by being just you
Than walking around in someone else's shoes
Trying to live the life of another is a mistake
It is a masquerade; nothing more than a fake
Be yourself and let your qualities show through
Others will love you more for being just you
Remember that God loves you just as you are
To Him you are already a bright shining star
Family and friends will love you more too
If you spent time practicing just being you
“Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else."~Judy Garland
Like Popeye said, "I yam what I yam." Me too.

A great reminder for us all! Why is this a lesson we often learn so late in life?

Jules @ Trying To Get Over The Rainbow
I love this post. So inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI saw your comment just now over at Jules and came over to meet you. I got very interested in following you when I saw that you write true stories. I just finished proofing the galleys of my memoir that's scheduled for April 25th release.
I love the typewriter logo. I wrote on one of these when I was a teenager. (I'm that old.) I also have a nine-year-old grandson who is mildly autistic; at first they diagnosed him with Asperger's. He is special.
I see your "aloha" thing. Did you live in Hawaii? I lived in Laie with my first husband and four children 1975-76.
I'm interested in reading your stories!
This is brilliant. Thanks for posting it. Do you mind if I re-use with a link back to you?
ReplyDelete*love* this post & *love you*!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo totally true Coreen, I was brought up to " To your own self be true,
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
WOW! Coreen, this is one of my peeves, I just can't hardly be anyone but ME!..I can spot a faker a mile away, I'm just gifted like that, I either tolerate 'em or get away from them, thanks for sharing, I am with you on this for sure,"BEING OURSELVES, AND LOVING IT"!

Love the poem! God does give each of us something special that no one else has, we have our own special work to do here. If we wear a mask, then our friends are not really our friends, they are friends of who they hink we are.
ReplyDeleteSo true! We are all unique, and have so much to give just by being ourselves, the person we were meant to be.Blessings jane
ReplyDeleteI love it Coreen. And on top of it, Be Real! Blessings to you dear one.
ReplyDeleteHi Coreen , As I was reading through the poem I reflected on how we sometimes do not like ourselves because of our past mistakes and choices so we actually do become different people than who GOD has intended us to become ....We cannot even believe that GOD would or could forgive us for what we've done ....We don't forgive ourselves either so we meander around through life wishing and pretending and dreaming and hoping that we could have a better life or become a better person ....When we come to understand that GOD actually does forgive us and wipes our slate clean it's not an instant guarantee to paradise here on earth but it does allow us to become the person GOD has created us to be ....We also need to understand what GOD wants from us and so to know this HE gave us HIS WORD ....We aspire to have love ,joy , peace , patience , understanding ,kindness, faithfulness ,gentleness and self control and it is only through GOD that we can and will have these characteristics ....What a wonderful post this is today ....Your faithfulness and enthusiasm for your site always shines through when you post ....Enjoy your night .
ReplyDeletereally nice post. My thanks and wishes. Take care!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sentiments dear Coreen.;) Yes indeed, it takes time, work and courage to be yourself but the results are very rewarding.;))
ReplyDeleteThe world is full of other people, so why try to be like them when you are unique?
Have a lovely day dear friend,
xoxo
Very wise words. I am grateful for the reminder.
ReplyDeletethis is great correen...and a message all young people should hear at an early age...and hte rest of us need reminded of often...
ReplyDelete“Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.". I love this quote Coreen.
ReplyDeletebefore it strikes to me why am I too different with other people. I have so many wishes yet I never appreciate who I am. But today that is not the case, I would like to love my self for who I am with the thought that God me the way I am today for a purpose and I will love for that purpose.
What a wonderful reminder of how special each of us is! I really liked your picture. Especially the blue bird. It was good hearing from you again. Thanks for supporting Carmen. I am glad that Carmen has been such a good support for you.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of one of my often-used sayings at the middle school in which I teach, "Isn't taking care of you a big enough job?" :)
ReplyDeleteGrateful to Matty for linking you up (a long time ago--I'm just getting to you now! :)
