A New Year is a Fresh Start

"A New Year represents a Fresh Start.  It is where the slate from the previous year is wiped clean of mistakes and trials; leaving only the lessons.  Each new year is full of new beginnings." ~ME
We should take advantage of every opportunity to make every day a fresh start.  Resolve to make each day the beginning of a new year, a new morning, a new adventure... believing there are infinite possibilities.
Look at a New Year as wiping the slate clean and taking us back to zero where we can be filled up again with faith, hope and love... enough for everyone we meet throughout the year.
Another fresh new year is here...
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!
This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest...
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!
I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!

The Purpose of Life and Change

"Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." ~John F. Kennedy

"The adventure of life is to learn. The purpose of life is to grow. The nature of life is to change. The challenge of life is to overcome. The essence of life is to care. The opportunity of life is to serve. The secret of life is to dare. The spice of life is to befriend. The beauty of life is to give. The joy of life is to love." ~William Arthur Ward

Again... Life is a Process

 Life is a Process.
We are a Process.
The Universe is a Process.

Life is a process
Of discomforts and pain
So learn to handle
It all with fain
And learn to unload
Your sigh and grief
Through a smiling face
And get some relief
And remember that bliss
Lies for you ahead
So have courage to listen
To what have been said
And learn more tricks
To enjoy your life
And search for happiness
Instead of strife.

"Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through.  Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it.  This is a kind of death." ~Anais Nin

Waiting to be Saved

There have been many times in my life where I 'waited to be saved'.  For someone to come along and take care of things for me.  From getting out of my marriage, a bad relationship afterwards, previous jobs, my house, the list goes on and on.

I learned a while back that only I can take care of 'my own' situations.  Only I can decide on what I allow into my life and how I am going to deal with those situations or people.  I had to learn to take care of myself and not expect someone else to take care of things for me.

I made a lot of excuses when I stayed in my marriage as long as I did.  Fear, money and even my children.  Who were more well adjusted and happier after the fighting stopped.  I waited for someone to come along; get me out of these situations and basically 'save' me.  Like the Prince coming to save Snow White.

The truth was I was afraid of the unknown.  Would I be able to take care of myself and my children financially?  Would I be able to keep the house?  I even worried if I would find someone better suited for me later?  Worry never solves anything.  Only action can change things!

Those things were, in my own personal situation, after the real fear and constant dramas and fighting.  None the less, that fear of the unknown stops many people from doing what they know in their heart they need to do.  Not only for themselves, but for their children.  I used the excuse many times that I stayed for my children.  Even back then, I knew it was a poor excuse.

I have to admit that back then, and for a long time afterwards, my self-esteem was very low.  My soul was damaged and 'tired' from all the stress and drama as well.  I think in those situations that is why it is hard for many of us to stand up for ourselves.  That is why we hope and pray that someone will come along and take care of our situations for us.  Initially saving us!  Nice wish, unfortunately things don't work out in 'real life' that easily.

I had to first get my confidence back; building my self-esteem back up one step at a time.  Anything faster is just a temporary fluctuation, in my opinion.  It takes time to find out who you really are again.  It takes time to accept your losses, both emotionally and financially in some cases, in order to heal and move on.  That's a perfectly understandable and a normal process.

I realized that no one else could take care of me, or fix my situations.  I needed to learn to take care of things myself.  I knew deep down I could take care of my children, I needed to also know I could take care of ME!  I found out over the last 6 years that I am stronger, and more capable of taking care of situations and myself than I ever imagined.

The very first and most important change I made was taking responsibility for my own actions.  Accepting the roles I played in those relationships and situations.  Admitting the choices I made and accepting responsibility for my own life.  The second change was finally forgiving myself for my mistakes; learning from them and moving on each time.  I now see the lessons each situation taught me.  To me the 'life lessons' we can learn in each 'life experience', is more valuable than anything we can learn in a text book.

Taking responsibility and control of my own life has made me happier and the most productive in my life.  Not saying that any of us have complete control of our lives.  That would be impossible unfortunately.

There will always be outside influences and people with 'free will' to impact our lives both positively and negatively.  However, we can choose to take control of the situations and events put before us.  Taking responsibility for our own thoughts, responses and actions is what helps us to have happy and productive lives!

Don't tell too much, too soon!

Many times over the past several years while dating, I have many times talked too much about my past dates and relationships, even to people I barely knew. I had convinced myself that I needed to be completely open and honest, with everyone, in order to find someone else that was honest. I realized later that too much information, too soon, is a Hugh mistake for many reasons.

For one, it scares the heck out of most men!  And two, the past is just that the past.  No one is perfect and we have all made mistakes.  What is going on in our lives right now, along with who we are at the present time, is what and should be all that matters.

Most of our past experiences happened for a reason.  In my case, it has made me the complete person I am today.  I now appreciate all that has happened and look for the lesson in each experience.  I could not have grown, learned or matured without those experiences.  I truly like the person I am today.

I also realize now that when the right person comes along for us, no amount of past or road blocks are going to keep you from them.  If two souls are meant to be together, they will be.  However, no matter how hard we try to rush things, it will happen in God's timing and not always in ours.  So be patient and believe that the right person, at the right time, will come into your life and they will!

Love Manual.....please

I've been waiting for the right man to come along for quite a while now. I've grown and figured out who I am. I've rejected the wrong men and learned what the good ones should be like. I've put myself out there trying to find true love and been hurt and even embarrassed a few times.

However this time, I feel totally different. A calm inside of me from being absolutely certain that he is the 'One' capable of loving me and appreciative of genuine love in return. The one whose own heart, soul, character, and ability to love is a perfect match to my own.

I agree with the understanding that taking your time will season a relationship and make it even better later on. But after a while you start to think 'Life is too Short" to wait too long. So when is the right time and who should make the first move?  An even harder question is who should say the 'love' word first?

I understand that everyone has other things in their life that occupy their time. Jobs, kids, homes, and other responsibilities and stresses. But you don't want the right one to slip away because they didn't think you were interested. Or to run away if you scare them by being too forward too soon.

I've never had a problem in the last 5 years, just walking away from men, because I knew they weren't the one. But what do you do when you think they are? How much time do you give things to work out?

Can someone please give me a love manual to follow, so I don't make any mistakes?  A love manual for the great relationship I am so longing for and finally believe I deserve....please!

Rejecting 'Evil' people from our lives!

"Good and evil both increase at compound interest. That is why the little decisions you and I make every day are of such infinite importance." - C.S. Lewis
Anyone who truly knows me knows that I am a ‘people person’ and happiest when I am around other people. Before I moved to Iowa, I felt I made friends easily, where ever I lived or worked. Willing to be friends with almost anyone I met. In fact I truly believed that I could get along with everyone if I tried. I was extremely naïve and way too trusting when I moved from my hometown to someone else’s.

I would say that 99.9% of the people I have met in the last five years are really good people. In fact most people have been extremely nice to both my son and I. That, along with the excellent education for my son, has made us very happy and grateful for most of our experiences here. However for the first time of my life I actually met some truly evil people too. Five years ago I was totally unprepared for the hell I was about to experience.

At first I tried to see good in them, like I strive to do with everyone I meet. Then I thought maybe I was too sensitive and passive, letting their aggressive, manipulative personalities affect me. I even told myself that I needed to learn to ‘handle’ these pushy, controlling, and negative people in order to better my own people skills. But I didn’t need to deal with any of it. I just needed to walk away, and quickly! What do they say, ‘keep your friends close and your enemies closer’… I totally disagree with that statement!

There was a time not too long ago, when I couldn’t wait to be in social situations. Enjoying every conversation and interaction I felt fortunate enough to be involved in. I seldom worried about saying the wrong thing or having something I said taken out of context for a negative, hurtful purpose. It had never occurred to me that there were people who would twist a conversation around, change emails and lie, to intentionally damage someone’s life.

All from telling lies, spreading viscous gossip, and manipulating situations to suite themselves. The power of the ‘word’ for good and evil is so evident to me after experiencing ‘evil’ individuals first hand.

We all know that God brings good people into our lives! However the devil also brings people into our lives that are ‘evil’. These bitter, selfish souls never see anything wrong with their attitude and justify their horrible actions. That mind set is the most troubling to me and why I don’t want anything to do with them. I have learned to avoid, even reject these ‘evil’ people no matter how much they try to manipulative me into feeling guilty.  Valuable life skills for me to learn.

I have come a long way from the passive, peace keeper of 5 years ago. I think that’s a good thing!
